Testimonials from PSPA parents

“Park Slope Performing Arts provides a safe space for students to take a risk and try something new. My children have not only grown as actors and singers but as people. The teachers at Park Slope Performing Arts not only teach but they know my children’s strengths work with them to achieve new goals. This studio is all about the kids.

Park Slope Performing Arts has been a truly wonderful experience for my son and daughter (now 11 and 9). Besides learning performance and production skills, they have gained self confidence and learned the importance of personal responsibility in a group, all in a welcoming, friendly, non-judgemental environment. The classes for every age have been creative and fun, and both were so excited when they were old enough to audition for the Park Slope Youth Theater Company! Their participation in the productions have instilled pride and a sense of accomplishment in them, and have been the highlight of their year!

Our children (currently 8 and 10) have been fortunate enough to be involved with Park Slope Performing Arts for the past two years. Collectively, they have participated in PSPA’s summer camp, musical theater classes, and two Youth Theatre Company musicals (“Shrek” and “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown”). It is no exaggeration to say that PSPA is playing a significant role in their childhoods. The discipline, the sense of responsibility, the sense of community, the joy of learning new skills/making new friends/performing on stage, and the sheer fun have shaped both of them and provided them with increased confidence. This feels particularly meaningful after the disruption and isolation kids experienced during the height of the pandemic. We couldn’t be more grateful to Erin, Rebecca, Mary, and all of the other PSPA instructors for giving these gifts to our children.

Park Slope Performing Arts has been a vital part of our daughter’s development and enrichment. The support and encouragement she has received is unmatched.  PSPA provides a nurturing and family like atmosphere in which young performers blossom. PSPA is our daughter’s second home and we feel blessed to have found this neighborhood jewel.

Our daughter has taken two different ballet classes with PSPA for several years and has really developed a great foundation of ballet, and excitement to learn more and perfect her techniques.  The studio offers an extra “ballet academy” for kids who take a special interest in ballet and it is a wonderful opportunity for them to concentrate on technique.

PSPA has given our daughter the chance to try different forms of dance and attend some very cool camps.  The teachers are fantastic and really care about the kids.  They have created a place where the kids feel safe and eager to express their creativity.  They offer a wide variety of dance and performing arts classes, and make it easy and affordable for kids to take multiple classes.

My daughter was very shy and nervous when she first started taking dance at Park Slope Performing Arts in kindergarten. The teachers at PSPA were so kind and encouraging to her. Through their support and expert guidance, she has blossomed into a 2nd grader who loves to perform! She played Frieda in the PSYTC production of You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown they did last winter (which was amazingly good! I was blown away that they managed to produce a full-length play with all 5- to 8-year-olds), and recently got the part of the Wicked Witch of the West in their new production of The Wizard of Oz.

PSPA offers young budding a actors a chance to learn and perform in a way that I did not think was possible at such a young age.  They take care to create fair opportunity for all, and encourage independence and creativity.
